Miku Nishimoto-Neubert – Piano Solo
Artists: Miku Nishimoto-Neubert
Title: Piano Solo – Works by Bach, Mendelsohn, Fanny Hensel
Catalogue No.: SM223
Release: 18.09.2015
Description
They all recognized in Bach’s work those outstanding qualities, which were only accredited to him some time later. Influence of Bach’s music can be found in the works of the Mendelssohn children, even if titles such as “Klavierlieder” (Songs for piano) or “Variations serieuses” belie any immediate connection with Bach. Bach’s concept of form was influenced by the great concertante works of his time. These had a powerful effect on the individual movements of his keyboard suites, which grew into cyclical works for keyboard. These in turn served as models for Romantic character pieces and for cyclical works for piano in the 19th century, particularly for works by Mendelssohn and Schumann.
Miku Nishimoto-Neubert is rightly regarded as an “outstanding Bach soloist”. In order to identify with the complex and differentiated sound-world of Bach, she has, in the past years, made his works something of her own. In her many new Bach interpretations, his best-known works appear as new.
Her playing draws its strength and vitality from a consistent identification with the structural and spiritual demands of Bach’s music. These can be transmitted to the discerning listener only through an open approach and a consistent re-appraisal of one’s own mental and technical resources.

Alicja Smietana – Metamorphoses

Title: Metamorphoses
Catalogue No.: SM 219
Release: 20.04.2015
Description
From a purely aesthetic (and artistic) point of view I have been especially interested in two things – creating the “inexistent” and transforming “worlds”, and also in consolidating what is invisible to the human eye, or what is inaudible to the human ear. But music should never be only a mirror reflecting reality just as we see it. It has ever been a window that opens up only to the artistic imagination. Besides many other factors, this window should in my view have one essential part: the ever-changing Improvisation – a somewhat overlooked subject but absolutely essential in the process of creating rather than just regurgitating.Born in 1983 in Krakow, Poland Alicja Smietana performs works from Bach to Contemporary music with – what was described by San Francisco Chronicle as – “Extraordinary brilliance and sensibility…”. Winner of numerous competitions and awards (including First Prize at the Israeli International Competition, Brahms Society Award and support from sir Georg Solti Foundation) Alicja studied at the Krakow Academy of Music in Poland with Mieczyslaw Szlezer and later on moved to study at the Kronberg Academy in Germany with Christian Tetzlaff and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with David Takeno, Ofer Falk and Sven-Arne Tepl on viola.

Viktoria Kaunzner – Ja(zz)smine Rice Violin Mysteries
Artists: Viktoria Kaunzner
Title: Ja(zz)smine Rice Violin Mysteries
Catalogue No.: SM 220
Release: 23.03.2015
Description
The Swiss jazz saxophonist, flautist and composer of jazz and classical music, Daniel Schnyder (b. 1961) and Viktoria Kaunzner had a “funny, crazy” musical encounter in a jazz club/pizzeria in Seoul in the autumn of 2014. It was all about his work “The four winds” for violin solo (2008), in which he endeavours to “capture various points of the compass”. Musicians travel from all over the world to different locations in order to make music: “air and wind transport music”. The Greek wind gods, the Anemoi, are descended from the Titan Astraeus, god of twilight, and from Eos (Aurorato the Romans), goddess of the dawn.
You will experience an utterly different atmosphere in the music of the Polish composer, pianist and music theoretician Krzysztof Meyer (b. 1943), once a student of Krzysztof Penderecki, Nadia Boulanger and a friend of Dmitri Shostakovich. The “Misterioso” for violin and piano op. 83 (1994) is a complex conglomerate of intervals that unfolds, with the individual parts in clear contrary motion, out of a subtle sound mobile at the beginning, leading to an intensive dialogue between both instruments. The music leads into a sort of polyrhythmic Sprechgesang of the instruments culminating in a morendo.
In 2009 Professor Violeta Dinescu (b. 1953), a composer who teaches in Oldenburg, sent Viktoria Kaunzner the sheet music of “Mâtram” for violin solo (1986). In 2011 it was her privilege to premiere the work in her presence in Berlin. Violeta Dinescu’s music is always inspirational for its lively, clear and finely traced signature. From it emerges a profound sense of nature and a “sensitively stimulating and creative freedom of interpretation”.

Title: Franz Schubert – Symphony No.2 and No. 6
Catalogue No.: SOB 07
Release: 10.11.2014
Description
Schubert’s symphonies were designed for a ‘big audience’, but during his lifetime they were, at best, only performed in the semi-public rooms of the Seminary and those of the amateur orchestra. It was not until barely a month after his death that the first truly representative performance took place through the Society of Friends of Music (Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde) in Vienna. Leopold von Sonnleithner, a friend of Schubert’s, had some input into the programming and suggested the sixth symphony for the occasion. The “Great” C major could not be considered owing to practical constraints, but why was it number six in particular that was chosen out of his early symphonies? Were the reasons purely mundane – or was there a deeper rationale behind this decision? It would be good to know the answer, but today one can merely speculate.

The Sinfonieorchester Basel is always again demonstrating anew its excellent quality, whether it be in its own concert tiers, in the Theater Basel or in guest concerts at home or abroad. Since 2009, the principal conductor has been the renowned American conductor and pianist, Dennis Russell Davies.

Weihnachten!
Katalog Nr.: 88875033532
Veröffentlichung: 31.10.2014
Produktbeschreibung

Trio Cremeloque – Trio Cremeloque
Description
Unlike Terzetto by Lalliet, Pavane pour une infante défunte (1899) by Maurice Ravel is a well known and much performed piece originally written for piano, and arranged by the composer for xxx orchestra in 1910. It gets a new timbre performed by Cremeloque Trio. In this version, the melody brought by oboe and bassoon gets on its meditative profoundness making it easy for the listener to evoke the atmosphere of the slow processional court dance of 16th and 17th centuries.
The Trio (1926) by Francis Poulenc was composed in Cannes and dedicated to Manuel de Falla. It is written in best French neoclassical tradition and probably is one of the most performed pieces within the repertory for this ensemble. Allusions to 18th century classicism is dense, the proliferation of classical themes is extended to the point when this Trio could be called not even neo-classical but hyper-classical music. What makes Cremeloque’s interpretation of Poulenc’s Trio different from the interpretation of other ensembles is – again – almost palpable corporeality of playing music to the point when enjoyment of performing bodies could be heard through every note.
Rachmaninoff‘s early Elegiac Trio in G minor (1892) comes as a kind of romantic and melancholic closure of this CD. This one-movement piece was originally written for piano, violin and cello. Cremeloque Trio opens the discussion about possibilities of re-arranging existing music for oboe-bassoon-piano formation particularly with this piece and makes the repertory for this not so common ensemble an open field of investigation. Looking forward to further results!
