Max Müller – Tierisch!

Künstler: Max Müller

Titel: Tierisch!

Katalog Nr: SM 240

Veröffentlichung: 24.03.2017

 Produktbeschreibung

Philip A. Draganov – The Violin Battle

Title: The Violin Battle

Catalogue No.: SM 267

Release: 24.02.2017

Description

The advantages of old master violins against modern violins – or vice versa – is one of the most discussed issues in the world of string instruments. A year can barely pass without a new scientific study, in which they claim to be able to definitely prove which one is better. For the most part, these supposed sensations reveal only one dimensional thinking, which can hardly ever be appropriate when defining a such complex phenomenon as a string instrument. The situation is absurd and confusing, because nothing is more vague than the price to sound ratio with stringed instruments. The more expensive an instrument is, the more irrational the opinion. The motto is: Close your eyes and listen carefully, because blind tests can sometimes lead to quite amazing, almost unmasking results.
Hamburg born violinist and conductor, Philip A. Draganov, has enthralled audiences in Europe, Asia and the USA with his „impulsive virtuosity… and exuberant musical power” (Hamburger Abendblatt). He had his debut as soloist at the age of only twelve with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg and has since enjoyed a multifaceted international career. In addition to solo performances, recitals and chamber music concerts, Draganov is regularly invited by major orchestras to perform as concertmaster or section leader. He has worked with conductors such as Günter Wand, Herbert Blomstedt, Bernard Haitink, Christoph von Dohnány, Michael Tilson Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Alan Gilbert, Sir Roger Norrington and Kent Nagano with various orchestras such as the NDR Symphony Orchestra/Hamburg or the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.
Draganov plays a violin made by the Italian violin maker Tomaso Balestrieri from 1769 and a violin from the German luthier Peter Greiner.

Casal Quartett – Russian Treasures

Artists: Casal Quartett

Title: Russian Treasures – Titz – Glasunow – Tschaikowsky

Catalogue No.: SM 241

Release: 02.12.2016

Description

From the very beginning, St. Petersburg – the gloriously petrified vision of Tsar Peter the Great, was a city of art and music. The highest paid employee in the Tsarist palace was a violinist from Nuremberg: Anton Ferdinand Titz. He dedicated his life to chamber music. With his colorful, brilliant quartets in the tradition of the ‘Wiener Klassik’ he himself founded a Russian tradition around 1800.
Decades later Alexander Glazunov made big sensation as a young composing dare devil. During his magnificent 1st symphony he also wrote the 5 Novellettes op. 15. The witty, energetic set of masterpieces is full of technical refinements and glamorous esprit, but also filled with deep emotional devotion. Within them one breathes the spirit and the joy of discovery of the Petersburg salons.
Russian chambermusic triumphed in Tchaikovsky’s successfull quartet debut and finally caught up with the musical capitals of Europe. Its overwhelming orchestral sonority meets Russian melos and passionate virtuos vitality. With its latest CD, the casalQuartett presents known and newly discovered gems from the musical treasure chest of Old Russia.

Florian Krumpöck – Berg / Brahms

Title: Berg/Brahms

Catalogue No.: SM 253

Release: 02.12.2016

Description

Alban Berg and Johannes Brahms are surely each among the most important composers of their time. Even if they are separated chronologically and stylistically, there is a link: Brahms was only 20 when he wrote his Piano Sonata in F minor (op. 5), his third and last in the genre. After Alban Berg composed his Piano Sonata (op. 1) he never wrote another.
Pianist Florian Krumpöck presents these two contrasting yet comparable works on this recording.

Internationally celebrated as both a soloist and conductor, Florian Krumpöck has more than proven his outstanding capability on the international concert scene. Appointed as one of the youngest music directors in German history in 2011, Krumpöck characteristically masters enormous amounts of opera and concert literature as well as piano repertoire, and particularly enthrals his audiences with his double function as a soloist and conductor. 2007 saw Krumpöck conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra with great success as a part of a New Year’s concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington. He was then employed by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where he notably worked with the former director of the Vienna Burgtheater, Matthias Hartmann. 2012 saw Krumpöck lead the Lichtenstein Symphony Orchestra as artistic director and principal conductor.
