Schwer zu sagen, was klassisch ist und was nicht. Das Gleiche gilt f\u00fcr die Bezeichnung <em>concerto<\/em>. Schon die Herkunft des Wortes ist umstritten: Leitet es sich aus dem lateinischen Verb <em>concertare<\/em> &#8211; &#8220;wetteifern&#8221; &#8211; ab oder von <em>conserere<\/em> \u2013 &#8220;zusammenf\u00fcgen&#8221;? <em>Concertante<\/em> Musik kann all dies sein, eine <em>kind of classic<\/em> und eine <em>kind of concerto<\/em>. Es ist nicht blo\u00df ein Wortspiel, sondern entspricht einer vom Komponisten tief empfundenen W\u00fcrdigung des legend\u00e4ren Albums <em>Kind of Blue<\/em> (1959) von Miles Davis (1926-1991).<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f4rte-Real ist einer der heute hoch angesehenen portugiesischen <em>klassischen<\/em> Komponisten, bekannt f\u00fcr seine rhythmisch-melodisch-harmonischen Patterns, die manchmal an die lichte minimalistische Musik von John Adams erinnern, ohne auf das Primat der Melodie (oder zumindest melodischer Muster) als leitende Kraft des musikalischen Narrativs zu verzichten. Dabei l\u00e4sst er eine kaleidoskopische Vielfalt von Referenzen anklingen und markiert auf syn\u00e4sthetische Weise Abschnitte seiner Partituren mit unterschiedlichen Farben. Charakteristisch f\u00fcr C\u00f4rte-Reals Musik wie auch f\u00fcr seine Pers\u00f6nlichkeit sind seine Ironie und Theatralik, mit denen er die Ungewissheiten der modernen Welt und die Abwesenheit hinterfragt, die der abrupte Einschnitt des Todes hervorruft.<\/p>\n<div id=\"contentsContainer\" class=\"style-scope qowt-page\">\n<div id=\"contents\" class=\"style-scope qowt-page\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"contentsContainer\" class=\"style-scope qowt-page\">\n<div id=\"contents\" class=\"style-scope qowt-page\">\n<p>\u201cKind of classic\u201d is the title of this CD, which brings the <strong><em>world premi\u00e8re recording<\/em><\/strong> of the composer Nuno C\u00f4rte-Real\u2019s (b.1971) <strong>concert for tuba op.65<\/strong>, and two <em>concertante<\/em> pieces, <strong><em>Luar Galego<\/em> op. 23<\/strong>, for cello and strings, and <strong><em>Elegia<\/em> op.33<\/strong> <strong>B<\/strong>, for piano and orchestra. It\u2019s quite challenging to say what is <em>classic<\/em> and what isn\u2019t. The same must be said about a <em>concerto<\/em>. The origin of the term has always raised debate, from the Latin verb <em>concertatum<\/em>, \u201cto fight\u201d \/ \u201cto compete\u201d, or from <em>consertum<\/em>, \u201cto intertwine\u201d \/ \u201ctie up\u201d? A clash between two instrumental entities, distinct in both number and sound or the highlighting nature of a dialogue? <em>Concertante<\/em> music can be all of this, a <em>kind of classic <\/em>and a <em>kind of concerto<\/em>, not merely a game of words but the composer&#8217;s heartfelt tribute to the legendary album <em>Kind of Blue <\/em>(1959) by Miles Davis (1926-1991).<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f4rte-Real is one of the most highly regarded present-day Portuguese <em>classic<\/em> composers. Kaleidoscopic in the multitude of references summoned, as well as synesthetic demeanour, painting sections of the manuscript scores in a variety of colours, C\u00f4rte-Real is known for his rhythmic-melodic-harmonic patterns, which occasionally can remind you of the brightness of John Adams&#8217;s minimalist music, without relinquishing the primacy of melody (or, at least, melodic patterns) as the guiding force of the musical narrative.
