Taschenphilharmonie – Beethoven Revisited Symphonies 1-9

Title: Beethoven Revisited Symphonies 1-9

Catalogue No.: ETP010 – 6 CD Box

Release: 09.02.2018

Description

This is an extraordinary journey through the most preeminent of classical symphonies. With an ensemble of only 12-16 top-quality musicians, the Pocket Philharmonic Orchestra explores Beethoven’s musical origins.

All the great conductors and orchestras have shown where Beethoven led:  how his ideas paved the way for later masters like Schumann, Bruckner and Mahler. What hasn’t been shown yet is where Beethoven was: where his musical language came from, how he shifted standards and developed techniques in a completely new and revolutionary way.

The Pocket Philharmonic has a new approach to this idea: instead of a full chamber or symphony orchestra, the ensemble performs as a chamber ensemble in a symphonic manner – symphonic chamber music, or chamber music symphonies, so to speak.
“This is the most vivid performance of the Eroica you have ever heard” said the critics. “It makes the revolution in his music audible.

“An outstanding listening experience.”

Release: 13.10.2017

Description

The Munich-based (Germany) taschenphilharmonie (Pocket Philharmonic Orchestra) is dedicated to chamber symphonic performances based on Arnold Schoenberg’s »Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen« (Society for Private Musical Performances), established in Vienna during the 1920’s. Therefore, this ensemble performs big scale orchestral works from Mozart/Mahler/Beethoven to contemporary compositions with just 12-20 high-profile musicians. The result is a refreshing crystal clear sound combined with multifaceted colours and the vitality from outstanding musicianship to produce the resonance of a much bigger orchestra.

The Pocket Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor Peter Stangel have received several awards for their innovative concert formats and their educational work. To learn more about the ensemble and the works performed on the CDs please visit

Die Taschenphilharmonie

Titel: Die Moldau

Katalog Nr.: ETP007

Veröffentlichung: 28.10.2016

Produktbeschreibung

Description

The Pocket Philharmonic Orchestra‘sprevious 18-CD series, „Great music for small listeners,“ has sold over 300,000 copies to date. Produced in collaboration with the renowned newspaper die Zeit, Sony Classic and the audio publishing house Hörverlag, the series received a nomination for the ECHO Classic Award, and won both the Leopold Media Prize and the German Record Award. With its eponymous record label, the „smallest symphony orchestra of the world“ further establishes itself as a truly unique ensemble, performing traditionally large-scale orchestral pieces with creative orchestration, crystal clear sound, and vivid, life-like production.

The „edition taschenphilharmonie“ will present both studio productions and live recordings of the Ensemble. Of particular interest is the recording of all Beethoven symphonies. Each will be supplemented by a „Listener’s Academy“ commentary based on the fan-favorite „Listener’s Academy“ concert series which sell out regularly in Munich. In each commentary, the conductor explains the masterpiece of interest, setting each into the context of its era and notes special features of the piece that make it so significant and time-honored.

In addition, the Pocket Philharmonic’s CD repertoire will release novelties, such as the world premiere of Mahler’s gigantic 7. symphony in chamber version, as well as expand on classic favorites. The children’s series will not only be continued but also offered in the English language.

The Pocket Philharmonie’s mission is to bring classical music into a closer and more intimate setting with its listeners, whether children or adults. After all, the most important thing is the music!
